How do I edit the DOS exit screens?
This guide will take you through the tools for editing the DOS end screens in ChaosEdit.
Some elements of this guide assumes you have a fresh project based on the full version of Wolfenstein 3D. If not, get started by clicking here.
At the top of the ChaosEdit window is a series of tabs, which let you navigate to each section of the Editor.
To edit the DOS End Screens, you will need to access the Screens
tab.
Open ChaosEdit and load your project by clicking the Load All button and navigating to your project files.
Screens
1. The Scrollbar
This will switch between the different end screens (By default, one for exiting the game and one for when it crashes out with an error).
2. The Canvas
This is where you can directly edit the End Screen. Clicking on it will directly edit the screen.
3. "Paints"
For lack of a better word, these are the “paints” used on the Canvas. You can select the ASCII symbol to put on the screen, as well as the colour of the symbol and it's background.
Symbols can be bound to either right or left click.
4. The Toolbar
Rect/Border: This button is enabled when Rectangle Selection is used. Clicking it will present two potions. The Filled Rectangle does not appear to work, but Border will bring up a window with a smaller version of the Canvas and Paints to customize the appearance of the border and interior of the rectangle.
